Energy Management Program

The Energy Management (EM) Program has been launched as part of SEEC efforts to enhance and improve the energy efficiency (EE) in the Kingdom across various sectors, develop and implement best practices across the Kingdom.

The EM Program designed to offer an approach to support the energy efficiency culture of all facilities in various sectors and the implementation of energy management systems.

Energy management (EM) can be broadly defined as the proactive, organized and systematic management of energy use in an organization/facility to satisfy both environmental and economic requirements.

An Energy Management System (EnMS) integrates energy management into existing business systems, enabling facilities to establish energy efficiency culture, and ultimately reduce their specific energy consumption and sustain the achieved savings.

There are two elements that form the core of the EM Program, capacity building and energy management system implementation.

Capacity Building

Aim at scaling energy management, energy efficiency awareness and understanding of facilities primarily via awareness campaigns and training modules.

Awareness Campaigns

Aimed at increasing awareness of the EM track and EnMS implementation benefits.

Training Modules

Are designed to boost the capacity building capabilities of facilities via dedicated online channels to develop the awareness, knowledge, and skills to implement EnMS and/or implement general energy efficiency measures. The training modules are designed with assessment mechanism that asses attendance completion is verified.

Energy Management System (EnMS) Implementation

By integrating energy management into existing business systems, enabling facilities to establish a healthy energy efficiency culture, and ultimately reduce their energy consumption and sustain said achieved savings. Three options are presented to facilities to implement an EnMS:

1. Obtaining ISO 50001 Certificate

Which is an international standard for EnMS to align facilities' EnMS with industry best practices, from accredited body.

2. Completing SEEC50001 Ready Program

is a self-guided, no cost approach developed by SEEC to provide guidance for facilities to implement an EnMS aligned with best practices. More details about the SEEC ready program can be found athttps://50001ready.seec.gov.sa

3. Implementing an Internal EnMS

Where facilities can opt to develop and implement their own EnMS, demonstrating that it is align with ISO 50001 and / or other best practices and guidelines.

Each EnMS implementation option has a different set of requirements which facilities shall submit to SEEC for review and verification.
